GHW is pursuing a case against Baja, Inc. alleging that leaking gasoline from a Mini Bike it manufactures caused a fire which resulted in severe burn injuries to a young child. On May 14, 2010, GHW attorney, Edward F. Downing, III, cross-examined a representative of Baja, Inc. regarding the gas caps. On July 15, 2010, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Baja Motorsports Mini Bikes and Go-Carts issued a recall of about 308,000 mini bikes after receiving nine reports of the gas caps leaking and detaching, including one report of a serious fire injury to a child, according to the agency's press release. On July 15, 2010, the day the recall was issued, Downing provided a videotape of testing reflecting the significant leakage of gasoline onto the engine of this Mini Bike during normal operation. Downing has earned a national reputation in handling fire cases in many jurisdictions in the country, including California, Texas, Missouri, Tennessee, New York and Alabama. His work has led to modification of the design of gas-fired water heaters to prevent fires. Now, Downing's work has contributed to the recall of these Mini Bikes to prevent fires.
